What we do at Interchem
Years ago, Interchem was an Agent for over 30 raw material factories predominantly from Europe, the United States and India that spanned across the Pharmaceutical, Veterinary Medicine, Human Nutrition and Animal Nutrition industries along with a few specialized materials.
Now, Interchem has 3 business units, the first and perhaps the largest is running a Four Party Logistics Operator (4PL) model. We are currently running the operation of 2 large multinational brands in Colombia and expect to grow adding a new operation every one to two years. With each addition we grow or competitiveness and effectiveness in the logistics chain creating the most aggressive and competitive go-to-market model for our brands.
This 4PL model is a hybrid model between 2 alternatives: 1) having a local presence with the brand having a legal presence in the country (local office) and 2) a traditional distributor. The advantage is that through our operation we handle the entire process: purchasing, importation, warehousing, data, reporting, delivery, and collection—so that you don’t need to have a legal presence—with a small margin on our part (compared to 25%/30% from a distributor without distribution control). The brand covers the operational costs and has its own salesperson with a sole focus on brand penetration. Of course, there are more details, but that’s the essence—and it allows the brand to be more competitive in the local market.

Our second business unit continues to be a number of explusive representations that we have for Colombia which include AJINOMOTO, ITALMATCH and J RETTENMAIER.
Our third business unit is contract distribution where we purchase the inventory for a particular customer and deliver this inventory partially DDP.
